Preview: Stags vs AFC Wimbledon

4 September 2015

Your comprehensive guide to Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against AFC Wimbledon (3pm).

TEAM NEWS:

Mansfield could welcome back the likes of striker Matt Green, and captain Nicky Hunt to the squad after they were rested for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy loss to Notts County in midweek. The Stags are still without goalkeeper, Scott Shearer, and winger Matty Blair, as they continue their journey back to fitness.

AFC Wimbledon are sweating on the fitness of midfield trio, Tom Beere, Andy Barcham and Dan Gallagher after they all left the field injured during their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

RECENT FORM:

The Stags go into the game looking for their first home win of the current campaign, after two draws in their opening One Call Stadium fixtures. After a marvellous win at York City last week, the Stags will go into the game full of confidence, with talisman Matt Green back amongst the goals following his summer switch from Birmingham City.

After securing a draw against Carlisle last week, the Dons are looking to bounce back following their midweek loss against Plymouth Argyle in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Neal Ardley’s side surrendered a two-goal lead to lose the cup tie 3-2 after goals from Adebayo Azeez and Lyle Taylor put the south London side ahead.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

The last meeting between the sides came back in March at One Call Stadium in a tie where the Stags emerged as 2-1 victors. The Dons led through George Francomb’s penalty before Lee Beevers hit an equaliser and as the game was heading for a draw, Rakish Bingham struck the winner three minutes from time.

Mansfield did ‘the double’ over the Dons last season, after Vadaine Oliver’s goal sealed a 1-0 win at The Cherry Red Records Stadium, despite Rob Taylor’s first-half red card.

OVERALL RECORD: WON: 3 DRAW: 1 LOST: 4

MATCH OFFICIALS:

The man in the middle for Saturday’s game is Ross Joyce and he will be assisted by Marc Edwards and Jonathan Hunt, whilst Stephen Ross will undertake fourth official duties.

Mr Joyce last took charge of the Stags in our final season in the Blue Square Premier League, in our 4-1 win over Stockport County.
