Preview: Mansfield Town vs Burton Albion

29 August 2014

Everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two match against Burton Albion at One Call Stadium…

TEAM NEWS

Striker Liam Hearn is the only definite absentee for Mansfield Town ahead of the visit of Burton Albion.

Defender Luke Jones may be included in the squad as he bids to overcome his recent injury troubles.

RECENT FORM

The Stags go into this match on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend.

However, Paul Cox’s team have won both league matches on home soil this term, beating Oxford United (2-1) and Newport County (1-0).

Burton Albion are unbeaten in 2014/15, having won five and drawn one of their first six matches.

The Brewers drew 1-1 at Newport County last Saturday, but were victorious against Oxford United (1-0), Dagenham & Redbridge (2-1) and Exeter City (1-0) in their first three league matches.

Gary Rowett’s team also pulled off a major shock in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, toppling Premier League Queens Park Rangers (1-0) at the Pirelli Stadium.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Mansfield haven’t scored a single goal in their four previous meetings with Burton.

The Brewers recorded an impressive ‘double’ in 2008/09 on their way to winning the Conference Premier. They won 1-0 in Staffordshire thanks to a goal by John McGrath and 2-0 in North Nottinghamshire with Greg Pearson and Marc Goodfellow on the score-sheet.

The most recent meeting between the two clubs came in Sky Bet League Two in 2013/14.

After Billy Kee grabbed the only goal in a 1-0 home win for Gary Rowett’s team in November, the reverse fixture on New Years Day finished goalless.

Our full record against Burton Albion is as follows: Played 4, Won 0, Drew 1, Lost 3.

OFFICIALS

The Football League have appointed Mr Darren Drysdale as the referee for this match.

The experienced referee will be ably assisted by Mr Nicholas Hopton and Mr Robert Massey-Ellis. The Fourth Official is Mr Neil Hair.

Mr Drysdale oversaw two of our matches in Sky Bet League Two last term – a 3-0 defeat at Southend United in November and a 1-0 home reverse to York City in March.
