Positive news for defensive duo

8 October 2012

Paul Cox was pleased to confirm that injured defender John Thompson could be back for selection sooner than expected.

The experienced centre half was stretchered off towards the end of the first half during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Cambridge United with a suspected broken leg.

However, Cox was boosted by news over the weekend that scans revealed only severe bruising on Thompson's right shin.

Fellow defender Exodus Geohaghon is also on the treatment table having picking up an ankle injury during the match and both players are likely to miss tomorrow’s match at home to Lincoln City.

It is not yet known how long the duo will be out for, although Cox expects to learn more about the extent of their injuries later today.

Our Head of Media & Communications Mark Stevenson is asking the questions, as well as the Chad's John Lomas

Speaking at this morning's press meeting, Cox said:  “We had a telephone call on late Saturday night and the good news with John Thompson is that it is just severe bruising.  There is no cracked bones or broken leg, which is excellent,” said Cox.

“Exodus is in early for treatment and we should know [how long he’ll be out for] at mid-day today."
