Paul Ogden leaves Stags

13 August 2014

Chief scout Paul Ogden has today left Mansfield Town following three years of service, the club can announce.

The former Northwich Victoria and Stafford Rangers manager was appointed to the role shortly after Paul Cox’s arrival as first team boss in May 2011.

He has helped bring in a number of quality acquisitions to the Stags’ squad during his time at the club. “It was a compliment for me to be appointed to the position when Paul (Cox) was given the job as manager by Mr Radford (Chairman),” said Paul Ogden.

“It has been a great challenge from the outset and I knew that it would be a pleasure working for Paul and that has been the case throughout my three years here.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to leave at such a time where it allows the manager a period where a suitable replacement can be sought in the early stages of the new season.”

He added: “I leave with no animosity and will always be available to help the club. I have been proud to associate myself with Mansfield Town.”

Paying tribute to Paul Ogden, boss Paul Cox said: “Paul Ogden has been an integral part of the team that has brought the success of the last three years to Mansfield Town.

"His reports on opposition teams have been invaluable to match preparations but what a lot of people don't realise is the key role he has played in bringing players such as Sam Clucas to the club. He tirelessly travels the length and breadth of the country to fulfil his duties for the club.

“His experience and knowledge of football throughout the pyramid is unrivalled and it will be incredibly difficult to fill his shoes.

“On a personal note, Paul has become a close friend and confidant over the years, who I can always rely on for an honest opinion.

“He will be deeply missed by both me and my staff and but I'm sure he will still make it to see a few matches and I hope that Mansfield Town Football Club will always welcome him with open arms and recognise the important role he has played. “
