Murray not taking play-offs for granted

8 March 2013

Assistant manager/captain Adam Murray insists there is still a way to go before the team can be sure of a place in the end of season play-offs.

Our side sit in a healthy position of third in the Blue Square Bet Premier, eight points ahead of sixth placed Forest Green Rovers and with two games in hand over the Gloucestershire side.

But Paul Cox’s men face a crucial batch of matches, starting with Stockport County at home tomorrow afternoon.  After which, Stags face three games in the space of a week, all against sides in the top six:  Grimsby, Forest Green and Wrexham.

Adam Murray, Adam Chapman and Louis Briscoe are speaking to Mansfield 103.2's Jason Harrison.

“This is football.  It’s a million miles away from anything being done [achieving a play off place],” said Murray at this morning’s press meeting ahead of tomorrow’s game.

“We have a lot of big games to play and especially with the way this league has been this season, anything can happen.  There are a lot of points to play for and we just have to make sure we do our job.

“We’ve said to the boys that if we don’t quite make it for some reason it will be because someone else will have been awesome, not because we’ve messed up – as long as we do our job and stay focussed, we’ll be okay."

Louis Briscoe may rest instead of train today because of a slight gluteal strain, Murray confirmed.  Defender John Dempster may miss out on tomorrow's game again because of an ankle injury.  Striker Jake Speight has resumed training, but no time frame was indicated as to when he may return for selection.
