Murray hopeful of new addition

14 January 2014

Assistant manager Adam Murray says the management team are working hard to bring in a new striker before Saturday's match at Portsmouth

Speaking at this morning's press meeting the 32-year-old said:  "The quicker we can get somebody in, the better, because obviously that person will need to come into our environment and work with the lads and ourselves [the coaching staff] and understand what we're about. The next time we talk, hopefully we'll have some answers.

"We need someone who can put the ball into the back of the net. The boys are working their socks off up there and we just need something to complement what they are bringing to the side, whether it be a fox in the box, [and] someone with a little bit of pace who can get in behind who can finish off the chances which we're creating."

Discussing recent negotiations with potential targets Murray said: "Like I said last week, there have been a lot of negotiations and talks going on. We have missed out on a couple of bodies for various reasons and we're concentrating now on the irons in the fire. The Gaffer (Paul Cox) was at another game yesterday, running his eye over another player.

"I know it's slow progress at the minute but we're trying to make sure that the people coming into building are the right ones [for us].

In positive news from the treatment table, Murray confirmed that Martin Riley has resumed training following a groin injury, whilst Sam Clucas and Ben Hutchinson are said to be '10 days to two weeks' away from fitness.
