Murray glad to be back

5 December 2013

Midfielder Adam Murray insists he will be doing everything he can to help us climb the Sky Bet League Two table, following his return to One Call Stadium this week.

The 32-year-old featured in our first three matches of the campaign, before he spent time on loan at Rainworth Miners Welfare and then Worksop Town.

But having returned to the club ahead of this Saturdayā€™s trip to Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup with Budweiser, Murray is looking firmly to the future.

Reflecting on the past three months, he said: ā€œItā€™s the industry weā€™re in. Itā€™s football and itā€™s a strange business.

ā€œIā€™ve come to learn over the past 16 years that anything is possible. Itā€™s been a strange time, but we move on and hopefully we move forward.ā€

On his relationship with manager Paul Cox, the midfielder continued: ā€œThere were a couple of issues that we needed to iron out and weā€™ve done that.

ā€œWeā€™ve had some really positive and productive meetings this week and weā€™re laughing and giggling again and ā€˜back on the same pageā€™.

ā€œOver the last couple of years weā€™ve had a really close relationship and I donā€™t think anyone can argue with the fact that weā€™ve been successful.

ā€œWe know that we can achieve things together and weā€™ve proved that, so the most important thing now is the football club, moving forward, and trying to get points on the board.ā€

Murray, who has made 493 career appearances in all competitive competitions, is also in contention for a place in the squad for this weekendā€™s trip to Boundary Park.

The midfielder has trained with our first team squad all week and, although he has had to ā€˜gaugeā€™ his own fitness levels, isnā€™t phased by this level of football.

ā€œAt the minute, Iā€™m just happy to be back in the building,ā€ said Murray.

ā€œIā€™ve had a really good week. Itā€™s been tough seeing where Iā€™m at personally in relation to the lads.Ā

ā€œIā€™ve seen a few games, watched a few DVDs and I donā€™t think there is anything that will surprise me about the standard of football at this level.

ā€œSo [itā€™s been a case of] gauging where Iā€™m at, getting my head down, and doing as much as I can to help this group of players.

ā€œHopefully, with my experience and the qualities that I feel I bring to the table, Iā€™ll be able to help the boys and everything else will take care of itself in time and due course.ā€

On our recent form, he added: ā€œI think itā€™s been a tough period for the whole football club, because weā€™re not used to [losing] football matches and being at the wrong end of the table.

ā€œItā€™s something that weā€™ve been through before, but I think because weā€™re at a higher level, the period has lasted probably a little bit longer than usual.

ā€œBut we know within the group and within ourselves, weā€™ve got enough to get out of it and move forward.Ā

ā€œIā€™ve looked in detail at [the situation] especially in the last few weeks, and if Iā€™m being totally honest, Iā€™m not worried.

ā€œI do think that weā€™ll be in and around [the top end of the table] come the end of the season, because weā€™ve got enough in the camp.ā€

Murray also had words of praise for Micky Moore, who returned to One Call Stadium in a coaching capacity, prior to last Saturdayā€™s league match with Morecambe.

ā€œHaving Micky back at the club is a big thing, and heā€™s got a lot of tools what can help the group,ā€ added Murray.

ā€œHeā€™s a big piece of the jigsaw [for us]. Heā€™s excellent at what he does, he brings a lot to the table and heā€™s got a lot of knowledge, so it can only be a positive move.ā€
