Monakana aiming to impress

20 February 2015

Winger wants to get fans off their seats during his stay at One Call Stadium.

New signing Jeffrey Monakana is aiming to excite supporters with his performances following his loan switch to One Call Stadium.

The 21-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a one-month loan with us from Sky Bet Championship outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.

Describing his style of play, Monakana said: “I think I’m direct, have a lot of pace, skill and I like to get assists and goals – that’s what I want to do and want to bring to the team.

“Hopefully, I can do all of that and get fans off their seats.”

He continued: “There’s been a long interest in me since I came back from Aberdeen and I’ve chosen to come here because I feel like this is the place where I can get games and really put my emphasis on the team and try to win games.

Although the 21-year-old is currently contracted to the Seagulls, he has spent time on loan at a club based 600 miles away at the other end of the United Kingdom this term – at Scottish Premiership title-chasers Aberdeen.

Monakana made 10 appearances for Derek McInnes’ Dons side and helped them to enjoy a couple of stints at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Describing his season so far, the winger said: “It’s been a bit stop-start really. In the summer I got a little injury, then went up to Aberdeen.

“It was a great experience being top of the table and the fans treated me really well, but I felt I never got the game-time that I went up there for.

“So I had to come back and see what happened at Brighton. Obviously I’ve got the chance to come here, so I’m hoping to kick-start [my season] again, start playing more games and make a really positive impact.”

When asked how his move to One Call Stadium came about, he said: “Micky Moore (first team coach) sorted it out. I heard about [the opportunity to come here] two days ago and from there, it’s just happened quickly.

Despite his tender years, Monakana, an ex-Arsenal trainee, also boasts good experience at Sky Bet League One level.

He featured on 40 occasions during a year-and-a-half long stay at Preston North End, and has also appeared on loan for Colchester United and Crawley Town.

Monakana could make his debut in tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two away game at Oxford United.
