Right-back speaks to the media after penning new deal.
Defender Liam Marsden is excited by what the future could hold, after signing an extension to his current contract to remain at One Call Stadium for the 2015/16 campaign.
The 20-year-old, who played under current manager Adam Murray during his days in our youth team, has been impressed by our recent business in the transfer market.
âObviously this is my fifth season here now, so I know what the club and the gaffer are all about,â said the right-back.
âAll the young lads know what they [our boss and first team coaches Richard Cooper and Micky Moore] are all about. Theyâve obviously drilled [the clubâs principles] into us from first arriving here [such as] how they want us to play and how they want us to go about our business.â
He continued: âWeâve obviously had to make a few signings which is nothing new because we always have to make a good bunch in the summer, but there has been some good signings.Â
ââGreenyâ (Matt Green) is back and the fans are âbuzzingâ about that. I was here in the youth team when he was banging in goals for fun and if he can re-capture the form he was in then I think weâll have a good team.â
During the close-season, Marsden, along with a few of our other young professionals, has also been strictly adhering to a personal fitness training regime so they can be as fit as possible for when pre-season training commences at the end of this month.
âIâm just trying to get back fit, keep ticking over and waiting for the season to start,â explained the youngster.Â
âThe gaffer sent us all out a programme so weâre all coming back a few weeks ahead of schedule to make sure that weâre not lagging behind. We should all be at reasonable fitness levels by the time [pre-season training starts].â
Due to our ultimately successful bid to retain our Football League status last term, something which was secured with two games to spare, Marsden featured only 13 times in all competitions.
Reflecting on his personal experiences in the 2014/15 campaign and outlining his ambitions for the future, he said: âI didnât really get the game-time that Iâd have liked or hoped for, but when I got my chance I think I did alright. Iâm still young and learning every day.â
