New loan signing Emmanuel Dieseruvwe has declared he’s raring to go for us as we attempt to step up our bid for a Sky Bet League 2 play-off place.
The 21-year-old striker has joined until the end of the season on loan from rivals Chesterfield, where he has made 19 appearances in the current campaign.
The 6ft 5in forward has a point to prove after mostly being used from the bench for the Spireites and has outlined the attributes he will bring to the Stags’ promotion push.
He said: “I got told that Mansfield were interested in taking me on loan and from there I was interested in coming.
“Hopefully [I can] help Mansfield get over the line and get into the play-off positions and hopefully get up [to League 1] at the end of the season. I just want to come here and do my best for the team, work hard and hopefully get some goals.
“I like to think I’m an all-round striker. I like to run in behind and be a target man as well.”
On the chances of winning promotion with the Stags, Dieseruvwe added: “Anything can happen, football changes just ‘like that’ so with a few wins we can find ourselves in the play-off positions and hopefully at the end of the season going to Wembley.
“[I’m] just anxious to get started, to see what’s going to happen in the games and I’m raring to go. You’ve got to make a name for yourself and hopefully I can do this here.”
The former Sheffield Wednesday youth attacker is excited to link up with top scorer Matt Green, and doesn’t believe coming from Mansfield’s fiercest foes will be a problem.
“There’s a big rivalry [between the Stags and Chesterfield] – that all goes out of the window when you get on the pitch.
“I’ve had a look at a couple of the games and I’ve seen that he (Green) is very lively and he looks like a good player. Hopefully I can combine with him well on Saturdays.”
In addition, Dieseruvwe is keen to hit form to show he’s grateful for boss Adam Murray’s faith in his ability, while he’s also relishing the prospect of making his debut at One Call Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Portsmouth (19 March, 3pm kick-off).
“I’ve spoken to the manager and he seems like a very hungry manager. I just want to repay him and work hard for the team.
“I’ve been playing a few reserve games but there’s nothing like a first team game; the tempo’s a lot quicker – hopefully the sun will be shining on Saturday and it’ll be a lively game!”
