Manager's influence key for Daniel

24 February 2016

New loan signing Colin Daniel has highlighted manager Adam Murray as a major factor in his decision to rejoin the Stags from Port Vale.

The 28-year-old winger has signed a loan deal until the end of the season at One Call Stadium and he said the manager was a ‘big part’ of his decision to return to the Stags.

“I played with him before as well and he’s a good guy and I know he wants to do well and hopefully I can come in and do well for him and for the team.

“He just expects the best from all his players and he expects 100% every game. Anything less than that and I think he’s going to push you to get the maximum out of you.”

The Eastwood-born winger made 75 appearances in his first spell with the Stags and he says everyone at the club has helped him to settle straight back in.

“It feels good to see a few old faces and some new ones too, but it feels good. I’ve been welcomed in quite nicely.

“Everyone’s welcomed me with open arms really and everyone seems really friendly and I’m just happy to be here.”

Daniel, who is nicknamed 'Junior', is looking forward to playing in front of the One Call Stadium crowd once more, and he singled out two games in particular from his first spell as a Stag which stick in his memory.

“The fans were great when we got promoted. The Tamworth away game and the Chesterfield away game springs to mind.”

Daniel continued: “The Tamworth one was a big one. We were unbeaten and to get a win there, the fans were just great. Even after the whistle had gone, you could hear them singing all the way to the train station, so it was a good atmosphere.”

The former Crewe Alexandra man says he’s followed the Stags’ progress since his move to Vale Park in 2014 and he’s aiming to help the club cement a place in the top seven between now and the end of the season.

“Since I left Mansfield I’ve kept a close eye on Mansfield and I’ve been hoping they’ve been doing well.

“If we can get promotion again, like we did from the Conference to League Two, I think that’ll be a great achievement because I’ve come in today and the buzz around the place, it feels like a really good time for the club at the minute."

Colin Daniel's first interview since re-joining the Stags is available to view on Stags Player.
