Manager Paul Cox believes our side had a ‘bad day at the office’ in tonight’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Bury in Sky Bet League Two.
The Shakers took the lead through Danny Mayor’s effort in the first half, before Daniel Nardiello netted twice within the space of eight minutes after the break, racing the visitors into a three-goal lead.
Sam Clucas got the Stags on the score-sheet, but Jake Carroll wrapped up all three points for his side moments later as Bury leap-frogged us in the table
Cox had no complaints with tonight’s result and has now urged our players to bounce back on Saturday when we make the trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.
“I have no complaints whatsoever,” said Cox. “We got outplayed, outrun and out-fought. It was what it was – 4-1, so I’m not going to complain.
“It was very unlike us. Usually there’s that fresh impetus, but I don’t know if a lot of football has caught up with a few of the players.
“Hindsight is a great thing, maybe we could have freshened things up by starting a few more fresh faces.
“I’ve said to our players we have been on a decent run recently, picking up some good results. I’m going to put this down to a bad day at the office and we move on.
“We have 13 big games, so now we need to start fresh again. We’re going to come in and prepare for a big game on Saturday.”
He added: “All of a sudden you don’t become a bad side. I thought we tried to do the right things, passing the ball around, but if I’m honest I think we looked a yard off the pace.”
Despite tonight’s below-par display, Cox insists he will not panic about the result as he looks forward to our trip to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium at the weekend as our team aim to regain their form.
“We’ve put in some consistent performances over a long period and some of the defeats we’ve had I don’t think were warranted and maybe some of the wins we’ve had could have gone the other way.
“It’s no use pressing the panic button now, we have 13 games to go and you don’t become a bad group overnight.
“Sometimes it is how you come back from it which shows and tells a story.
“I’m disappointed and so are the players, we need to get it out of our systems as quickly as possible. The quicker the game can come on Saturday, the better.”
