In Memoriam: Andy King

27 May 2015

A tribute to the late Andy King who sadly passed away earlier today.

Everyone at Mansfield Town has been saddened to learn of the passing of our former manager Andy King, who died of a heart attack this morning aged 58.

King was a highly respected figure throughout football and spent two-and-a-half years in charge of the club during the 1990s.

His best achievements came in the 1994/95 campaign when he led us to the Division Three play-offs and presided over a famous League Cup victory against Leeds United.

His league record as Mansfield Town manager was as follows: Played 118, Won 38, Drew 38, Lost 42.

After leaving the club in August 1996, he went on to manage Swindon Town and Grays Athletic, before later working as a scout. He briefly took caretaker charge of Northampton Town in 2013/14 following Aidy Boothroyd’s departure from Sixfields Stadium.

His final position in football was working as Chief Scout at Sky Bet Championship-bound Milton Keynes Dons.

Chairman John Radford said: "Mansfield Town are saddened to hear of Andy's passing. He was well thought of by Stags' supporters during his time as manager of the club in the mid-nineties."

He added: "Our condolences are sent to his family and friends at this time."
