Dyer reflects on Fleetwood defeat

23 November 2013

Striker Ross Dyer has expressed his disappointment following our gut-wrenching 5-4 defeat at Fleetwood Town this afternoon.

Dyer, who only returned to the club earlier this week following a loan spell at Hereford United, looked to have earned us a deserved point when he bagged his first goal in the Football League in the final minute of normal time.

But Antoni Sarcevic’s last-gasp spot-kick in the sixth minute of injury time, gave the Cod Army all three points on their own patch.

Despite the defeat, which sees us slip to 16th position in the Sky Bet League Two table, Dyer believes there are many positives that our side can take from the game.

“We’re disappointed at the moment,” said the striker. “There won’t be many teams that come here and score four goals.

“Obviously there are a lot of positives to take, but we need to tighten things up at the back. We’re not going to win many games conceding five goals.

“We have shown quality to score four goals, although we are all obviously disappointed with the result. Hopefully, we can kick on now.

“When you are on one of these runs, [good luck] doesn’t seem to go for you, so we just seem to need some more [good] luck again.”

Meanwhile, Dyer was happy to be back in our squad this afternoon and was delighted to score his first Football League goal, as he now bids for a place in Paul Cox’s starting 11.

He added: “It has been a long road back for me from injury.

“I’ve gone out on loan, scored some goals, came back and now I feel fresh.  The gaffer has thrown me on today and we did really well to get back into the game.

“However, it’s a hard pill to swallow really, to concede a goal late on when we have done so well to score four goals away from home.

“I’ve always wanted to play in the Football League, so hopefully now I’ll get my chance.  I think I’ve hit a good vein of form, so hopefully I can go on and score a few more.”
