Cox update on Green & Jones

13 May 2013

Paul Cox has today confirmed that striker Matt Green is on trial with Birmingham City, but says he will meet with the striker this week to discuss his future.

Green, who is still said to be ‘keen to talk to us’ about the possibility of re-signing, has been with the championship club for over a week but the Blues have not yet offered a contract to the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Luke Jones looks set to sign for a League One Club.

Speaking on Jones, Cox said:  “Luke’s been up front and honest with me and it’s a great opportunity for the lad [to sign for a club in a higher division].  Nothing is signed and sealed yet.  If it does happen we’ll wish him all the best.  He did a great job for us last year and weighed in with a number of goals.”

On Green, he said:  “Green’s been there [at Birmingham] between seven to ten days but nothing is happening.  He is keen to talk to us again and hopefully we can 'thrash something out'.

“As a football club, we can’t stand still.  I have been planning for the worst case scenario as I always do.  We have to make sure that we’re not left with a massive void to fill for the beginning of the season.  He’s [Green] been a great servant to us.  I’d love to work with him again next season, but I’m sure whatever his decision is will take a lot of thought."

Speaking at this morning’s press meeting, Cox was pleased to announce that youth team players Jason Gregory, Ben Birch and Liam Marsden have been offered professional deals.
