Cox to consider signings after training

21 March 2013

Paul Cox will decide if he needs new additions to his squad after today’s ‘intense’ training session, the manager told the local media today.

Cox is mindful that he has just a week left to add fresh faces before the emergency loan window closes next Thursday at 5pm.

His decision to add new bodies may rest on whether he continues to see the 'hunger' from the players in the reserve side, who he was quick to praise after a 4-0 win against Grimsby yesterday

“It’s like we have a carbon copy [of the first team] in reserve,” said Cox.

“I will see training today, and see how one or two react to training because today’s session will be intense.  What I am more aware of is the mindset of the group, and that’s more important than me bringing an individual in.

“Yesterday, I was very pleased.  You can’t coach that [hunger] or try and instil them into players.  What I am hoping is that the players who played yesterday understand that they could be in the side in two or three games and finish the season and be a success.

“It’ll be a case of what I see this morning will ultimately tell me how hard I need to push to bring a fresh body or two in.

“With a few aches and pains which we’ve had of late I was thinking of dipping into the loan market again.  The one thing it [the reserve match] has done for me has told me that a few people want to step up to the mark again.”

Meanwhile, Cox has no fresh injury worries ahead of Saturday's visit by Macclesfield Town.
