Manager Paul Cox was pleased with our players' level of performance tonight despite losing 1-0 to Chesterfield in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Gary McSheffrey scored The Spireites’ winner on 72 minutes after converting a cross by Sam Hird which proved to be the decisive goal.
With the Stags back in action in League Two this weekend, Cox believes if our side put in a similar display, then we will come out on top.
Cox said: “We had three or four one-on-one opportunities with their goalkeeper. I personally think the game should have been out of sight before Chesterfield scored.
“I believe we played some good football and the overall performance was good but saying all that, it’s all about results [ultimately].
“I’m probably where Paul {Cook} was just over a week ago. I thought they were the better side when we played them at their place and we went and won 1-0. Sometimes you've got to eat a little bit of humble pie and accept you have been beaten.
“I thought the boys gave me a good response in performance tonight throughout the whole 90 minutes."
Elsewhere, Ritchie Sutton is said to be 'okay' after suffering concussion in the build up to Chesterfield's goal. Paul Cox said: "I think he's okay now. It looked quite bad at one stage but it looks like he'll be okay and hopefully he'll be back at training on Thursday. Our thoughts are with him."
