Cox pleased with Exeter point

10 August 2013

Manager Paul Cox hopes that the clean-sheet we kept in our draw with Exeter City can be used as a ‘stepping stone’ in the coming weeks.

We collected the first point of our League Two campaign, following an enthralling match with The Grecians at One Call Stadium.

In total, there were 31 chances during the clash, the best of which for us fell to Calvin Andrew, Sam Clucas and Jamie McGuire respectively.

However, we were unable to find a way past Exeter shot-stopper Artur Krysiak, who pulled off a string of fine saves to earn The Grecians a point.

“We needed that clean sheet to use as a base and I was delighted with how we defended,” said our boss, who was speaking during his post-match interview.

He continued: “We tweaked things in terms of our team selection and I thought we were a handful going forwards too.

“You have to score goals in order to win matches, and we still need to find that extra bit of a cutting-edge now we have stepped up a division.”

“But the lads worked extremely hard and for the first 60 to 70 minutes, we always looked positive.”

Interviews with Paul Cox and Ritchie Sutton will be available on StagsPlayer later tonight.
