Cox looks for siege mentality

29 September 2012

Manager Paul Cox believes his squad need to adopt a siege mentality in order to win more matches.

Our boss was speaking shortly after watching his side earn a point in a 1-1 draw against Hereford United at One Call Stadium this afternoon.

Cox said: “Today was a mixed bag to be honest. I was disappointed that we didn’t test their keeper more, but territorially I think we dominated the game from start to finish.”

“Hereford only had one shot at goal, which they scored. After that, I thought they made it really hard for us to break them down.

“If you’re not brave in the final third, then you’re not going to score goals and I’ve told the players that we need to adopt a siege mentality. At the moment we’re still playing with a bit of anxiety.

“But it’s a point and we have to look forward and try to build on it.”

Matt Green served the final game of his three-match suspension this afternoon, and Cox is welcoming the return of his star striker for next weekend’s trip to Cambridge United.

Cox added: “With Matt Green back for the next game after his suspension, it will help to add a bit of firepower to our attacking options.”
