Cox to make big decisions

14 August 2012

Boss Paul Cox will look to ring the changes after seeing his side fall to a second consecutive defeat at Gateshead tonight.

The manager was left seething after witnessing his side concede eight goals in the opening two matches and hinted that some players may be shown the door, even at this early stage in the season.

Following tonight's 4-1 defeat away at Gateshead, Cox said: "Decisions have been made on individuals. I have given certain individuals another game tonight, but the basics weren't done.  Things need to be done about it now whilst we have a chance.  I will now look to bring players in, probably players who have been on the touchline.

"People have hung themselves, and I now need to make big decisions for this football club.   I will be working really hard to rectify this.  We have people like John Dempster, John Thompson and Ritchie Sutton ready to come back in."

On the performance, Cox said:  " It was a bad night at the office.  We had a lack of belief and desire to do the basics well.  If we can't defend balls into our box then I'm going to have to bring people in.

"All that got us into third place last year was heart, desire, application and a willingness to work for your teammate but we have one or two individuals who are probably here for the wrong reasons.  I'm going to have to make some horrible decisions before Saturday and we will see what happens in the next couple of days.

"We were very hard to beat last year but we look like a team of posers and something has to be done about it, the sooner the better."
