Cox hopeful of new striker soon

23 July 2013

Manager Paul Cox looks set to re-enter negotiations with an un-named League One striker about a move to Mansfield Town.

Our boss, who held unsuccessful talks with the player last week, revealed at his press conference that there has since been further contact.

He said: “I spoke to the un-named League One player last night, and momentum is gathering now [in regards to our progress in the transfer market].

“We also have four or five other options available to us, but things are starting to come down to finer points.

Paul Cox is speaking to Mark Stevenson at this morning's press meeting.  Full interview available later today on Stags Player.

“We’re hopeful that before our match against Coventry City, we’ll have signed somebody.”

Our boss has also confirmed that trialist Nathan Arnold has left the club, but Amari Morgan-Smith and Calvin Andrew remain on trial with us.

He added: “Nathan has a few other options and he wanted me to make a decision on him on Sunday, but I wasn’t in a position to offer him anything.

“Nathan did extremely well for us whilst he was here and was a model professional, but my priority is to sign at least one centre-forward for this club.”

Meanwhile, despite media speculation, no contact has been made from Nottingham Forest for winger Sam Clucas.
