Manager Paul Cox wants supporters to ‘enjoy and embrace’ our final three games of the campaign as we bid to become Blue Square Bet Premier champions.
Our side jumped to the league summit with victory over Macclesfield Town in midweek and could be seal a return to the Football League this weekend.
Should our side emerge victorious from their difficult trip to Braintree Town – and Kidderminster Harriers fail to beat Wrexham – our five-year stay in non-league football will be at an end.
Cox said: “After the game on Tuesday I was talking to some supporters about tension.
“I can’t really understand. I want everyone to enjoy the last week of the season. We’re in this game to enjoy it and to compete for a championship.
“With [our run in] the FA Cup it has been a fabulous season. I know the supporters are crying out for success and we’re trying hard to achieve that.
“We’ve had two good years and we want it to continue. We’re coming to an important period now, but one which we shouldn’t feel stressed about.”
Our boss continued: “It’ll be a tough [game] at Braintree. They’ll want the bragging rights and to finish the top of their league in terms of being part-time.
“Alan [Devonshire] has done a great job, and if you look at how many players have represented the England C side over the last 18 months, you see they have a good squad.
“But I don’t like to talk too much about the opposition. I want to make sure that we’re concentrating and focussed and go there with a strong mind-set.”
Cox, who scooped the ‘Manager of the Month’ award last month, has also admitted he isn’t duly concerned about how other results could affect our title chances.
“It’s an uncontrollable situation,” stated our boss.
“I don’t worry about things that I can’t control. All I want to make sure is that we’re focussed and spot on and give it our best shot to try and win the game at Braintree.
“After that, it doesn’t matter. In my head I’m focussed right until the end of the season and I want to win every game between now and then.
“There’s no doubt a few of the lads will be checking [the Wrexham versus Kidderminster result] on the internet and on their phones, etcetera, as it’s only human nature.
“It would be brilliant if a result went for us, but first and foremost we’ve got to win our game.”
Our clash at the Amlin Stadium on Saturday begins at 3.00pm.
Meanwhile, the Essex-based club have already announced that ALL supporters are welcome to watch Wrexham’s televised clash with Kidderminster in the clubhouse afterwards.
