Clements: We can continue good form

12 April 2014

Midfielder Chris Clements believes Mansfield Town can continue their fine run of form after this afternoon’s 3-0 victory over promotion-chasing Rochdale.

Goals from Martin Riley, Matt Rhead and Ryan Tafazolli gave our side another vital win, as we now occupy 10th position in Sky Bet League Two, just six points off the all-important Play-Offs with four games to go.

Today’s win made it four wins in succession for Paul Cox’s men, and Clements has now urged the rest of his colleagues to fully concentrate on Friday’s game at Accrington Stanley.

“Our good run of form has come a bit later in the season,” said Clements. "However, we are going to keep on going and see how far we can go and aim to finish as high as possible in the league.

“We don’t want to get carried away. We have just got to go into every game and try our best, seeing how other teams get on. From there we will see where we finish in the league.

“We were in a relegation battle a couple of weeks ago, so it’s nice to now play without any pressure and start playing better football."

He added: “It’s another game on Friday against Accrington we need to tick off. It’s a difficult place to go, but we are full of confidence and I believe we can get another three points.”

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old was pleased with our side’s overall display against Dale, as he notched up two assists for Riley and Tafazolli respectively.

Clements continued:  “Rochdale came out of the blocks very quickly in the first half, but we weathered the storm and I thought we had a good chance in the second half with the wind on our side. When that first goal went in we knew we could score more.

“They are a difficult side to play against, so we had to switch it up a bit today and we ended up playing some good stuff. The three goals showed we were better than them.

“They didn’t like out style of play today - they had a good moan, but teams should expect that when they visit to our place.”
