Chairman calls for 'Wall of Colour'

1 August 2014

Chairman asks supporters to make One Call Stadium a sea of amber and blue for opening home league fixture.

Chairman John Radford is calling on our supporters to show their true colours for our opening home match of the new campaign against Oxford United on Saturday 16 August.

As the new Sky Bet Football League season begins, supporters across the country are being set the challenge of creating a ‘Wall of Colour’ at their club’s opening home league match.

Fans can get involved by donning their colours, as well as finding the most innovative ways to show their love for their team through social media using the hash tag, #WallofColour.

Our team will be looking to kick-off the new season in style, with the first home result often proving a useful pointer to a team’s prospects for the campaign ahead.

Last term, none of the 10 clubs that won promotion from the Sky Bet Championship, League One or League Two lost their first home league match. Furthermore, none of the nine clubs that were ultimately relegated won their opening home game.

Our chairman is looking to our fans to play their part in getting by making One Call Stadium a sea of amber and blue, thus creating a memorable atmosphere to inspire the team.

Shaun Harvey, the Chief Executive of The Football League, said: “The beginning of the new season is always a special time, with supporters full of hope and expectation that this is going to be their year.

"It’s great to see Mr Radford calling on fans to create a ‘Wall of Colour’ at One Call Stadium and I hope that Mansfield Town supporters rise to the challenge."

Harvey added: "Every team will want to make a strong start to the new season and the three points on offer could go on to make all the difference when the trophies are being handed out next spring."
