Carr keen to grab loan opportunity

24 October 2014

Youngster eager to impress during one-month loan.

Loanee winger/forward Daniel Carr is relishing the prospect of more first team football, following his emergency loan switch from Huddersfield Town.

The 20-year-old was unveiled as our latest loan signing on Tuesday and made his debut for us just a few hours later in the goalless draw with Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

“Everything happened quite quickly,” reflected Carr. “I found out the day before and got told I would be on the bench, so it was good to get on and make my debut.

“It’s been about 10 months since I last actually played league football, so [going out on loan] was something I definitely wanted to do. I’m grateful that Mansfield have given me the opportunity and I just want to ‘kick on’ now.

“I don’t wish anyone to be injured, but I want to play and it’s unfortunate that other strikers being injured will give me more of an opportunity to start and get games.”

Describing his own style of play, Carr continued: “I’m not a target man, but I like to give an ‘all round’ bit of everything.

“Mainly, I want to get goals because as a striker that’s what I get judged on. Hopefully, the team can create chances and help me to get goals for Mansfield Town.”

Carr joined Huddersfield last year, following a blistering season in the Ryman League (Division One South), in which he scored 25 goals to help Dulwich Hamlet win the title.

He spent time on loan at Fleetwood Town, scoring once in four games, and already knows that Sky Bet League Two can be an unpredictable and closely-fought division.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game at York City, the ex-Reading trainee added: “In this league, anyone can beat anyone. It’s important that we go on a run now – winning games, scoring goals, keeping clean-sheets – and putting in good performances.

“The result will take care of itself if we just keep putting in good performances.”
