Brown sets personal targets

Winger keen to achieve more after agreeing move to One Call Stadium.

Winger Junior Brown says he is delighted to have signed a permanent deal with us following a successful loan spell, but is now aiming towards earning a longer-term deal in the summer.

The 24-year-old agreed terms on a six-month contract yesterday, having shone whilst on loan from Sky Bet League Two rivals Oxford United over then past month.

Brown won two ‘Man of the Match’ awards in his two outings at One Call Stadium and was on the score-sheet in our Boxing Day draw with Hartlepool United.

Speaking at this morning’s press meeting, the winger said: “This is something that’s been ongoing for the past couple of weeks, but I’m glad to get it all sorted. I can now get cracking on with the rest of the season and see where it takes us.

“It was a difficult time I had at Oxford with a lack of games, which was why I was chomping at the bit to come here and get games under my belt.

“I think I’ve done quite well since I came here. It’s been exciting, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and I’m hoping that it will continue.”

He added: “[My six-month deal] is going to keep me focussed and bring out the best in me. I’ve got something to aim for and hopefully I can keep putting in good performances until the end of the season.”

Three new players have joined our squad since the transfer window opened last weekend and with more new faces still expected to arrive, Brown hopes our team can begin to climb the table.

“When you bring people in you want them to be as good as, or if not better, than what you’ve already got,” continued the wide man.

“They’ve got to be able to help in some way, whether it’s vocally on the pitch, or in terms of what they know about the game or how long they’ve been in the game.

“Obviously the players coming in have got quite a lot of experience so it’s going to provide a platform again for us to ‘kick on’ and help the younger lads in the dressing room improve, so it can only be to our advantage.”

Junior Brown’s interview will be available on Stags Player later today. To subscribe, click here.
