Murray disappointed that we didn’t take points, but pleased with second half display at the Pirelli Stadium.
Manager Adam Murray was bitterly frustrated that we were unable to take points from this afternoon’s away game at Burton Albion, despite a much-improved second half display against the Sky Bet League Two high-flyers.
After Reggie Lambe squandered a golden opportunity to put us ahead inside the first 30 seconds, the Brewers opened up a two-goal lead at half-time courtesy of goals by Matty Palmer and Kelvin Maynard.
Lambe atoned for his earlier miss by finding the target in the early stages after the re-start, but it wasn’t enough as despite us dominating the entire second half, we were unable to find an equaliser and pick up points.
Murray named all five of his new signings in his starting line-up and admitted that he was pleased with what he saw in the second 45 minutes, considering that the squad will need time to gel.
Speaking in his post-match interview, our boss said: “I’m obviously disappointed as we’ve lost a football game.
“Again I think it was a game of two halves. The first half was poor from our standards and [we conceded] two really bad goals from our point of view and there were a couple of apologies at half-time.
“The free-kick has gone straight in [for the first goal] and [for the second goal] the lad has got a free header from a corner, which isn’t us. Defending set-pieces is usually one of our strong points.
“That ruined the game for us, because I thought we had the chances to come in with something on the table at half-time.”
“I asked for a reaction at half-time and I thought there were a lot of positives in the second half. We spent most of the time in their half, so it’s another frustrating [result].
“It’s a performance what I look at and you could tell that there were players in there that hadn’t played together before, but there were a lot of plus points and that was always going to happen.
“The most frustrating thing is when you come off and the opposition manager says to you that his team were lucky today.”
He continued: “I thought there were some good [individual] performances – especially in the second half.
“We’ve come away to a top of the table team and dominated the game in the second half without being ruthless enough in the 18-yard box. The ball went in the 18-yard box that many times that we have to come out of the game with something.”
In other news, Murray is hoping to bolster our attacking threat with the addition of a new striker in the coming days, whilst he would also like to extend the loan of Crewe Alexandra forward Vadaine Oliver, whose last game of his loan spell is next Saturday’s clash against Exeter City.
