Biggest game of my career - Briscoe

4 January 2013

Winger Louis Briscoe has admitted that Sunday’s mouth-watering FA Cup Third Round clash against Liverpool is going to be the biggest game of his career.

Briscoe wrote his name into Mansfield Town folklore when his 77th minute strike in our Second Round Replay win over Lincoln City booked us a date with Brendan Rodgers’ superstars.

And the 24-year-old, our joint-longest serving player, is relishing the opportunity to potentially lock horns with established Premier League players such as Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

“My biggest game so far was the FA Trophy Final [Mansfield vs Darlington, 2011] when we didn’t turn up, but it was a great occasion. But this is a bigger game and we’re not expected to win it,” said the winger.

“Anything that we do well against Liverpool will be a bonus. There’s virtually no pressure at all as we’re playing against one of the best, and one of the biggest, teams in the world.

“The pressure is all on them and they’re going to want to win the same as us. They are a huge football club, coming to little old Mansfield and it’s going to be a tough ride for them."

He continued: “We’re all in the shop window as it’s going out on TV, so we want to show the world what we can do.

“It’s a chance of a lifetime so you have to grab it with both hands. We have to go out and enjoy it, being part of an amazing occasion.”
