Youth team looking to bounce back on Friday

12 October 2016

Mansfield Town's under 18s will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Hartlepool United last weekend when they face Rotherham United on Friday afternoon.

John Dempster's side will face the Millers at The Worksop Van Hire Stadium, Clipstone, at 2pm on Friday 14 October due to both Clipstone and Rainworth Miners Welfare having home games on Saturday.

The under 18s will be aiming to get back to winning ways after suffering their first defeat of the season last week away at Hartlepool United.

A tight affair was decided in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Pools' Liam Travers struck the ball home after Stags failed to clear a corner.

However, our youngsters still remain top of the EFL Youth Alliance with 19 points after a superb start to the season which has seen them pick up six wins and a draw.

Every player in John Dempster's talented squad have played their part in the table-topping start to the season. Winger Tom Marriott and striker Zayn Hakeem have taken many of the plaudits with the former being handed his first team debut by manager Adam Murray in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Port Vale, whilst former Nottingham Forest man Hakeem has been called up to the Antigua and Barbuda under 20s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

However, the Stags' defence must also be recognised for keeping a total of six clean sheets in their opening eight games, which has provided a solid foundation for their attacking endeavours.

Rotherham United currently sit third in the league after recording four wins and two draws from their opening six games.

Supporters are welcome to attend the match free of charge and the address is as follows:
