Youth preview: Grimsby Town vs Stags

14 September 2016

Mansfield Town's under 18s travel to Lincolnshire to take on Grimsby Town this Saturday (12pm kick-off).

John Dempster's side secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury Town in their second EFL Youth Alliance Cup match last week.

The Shrews raced in to a 2-0 first half lead, but a penalty from midfielder Tom Marriott halved the deficit just before the interval, and striker Ashanti Pryce popped up with an equaliser in the second half.

However, they return to League action with the match against the Mariners, who currently sit bottom of the EFL Youth Alliance North East division after failing to pick up a point from their opening three games.

Grimsby did, however, record a victory against rivals Lincoln City in the EFLYA Cup last week, triumphing 2-1 thanks to goals from defenders Bilal Sesay and Tom Sawyer.

Stags' last League match resulted in a tremendous 6-0 victory over Burton Albion. John Dempster's men raced into a 3-0 lead inside just 11 minutes after goals from midfielder Alistair Smith, defender Kieran Harrison and striker Zayn Hakeem.

Midfielder Tom Marriott then all-but secured the points in the 17th minute with an indirect free-kick, before second half goals from substitutes Devante Reittie and Ashanti Pryce put gloss on the performance.

Supporters are welcome to attend the fixture and the address is as follows:

The Training Ground,
Cheapside,
Waltham,
DN37 0HT
