Talented young midfielder wins Jack Retter Trophy

2 May 2017

Classy midfielder Cameron Healey has been named as our Young Player of the Year and was presented with the Jack Retter Trophy at half-time of Saturday's game against Portsmouth.

Healey, 18, has been a mainstay of our youth team's EFL Youth Alliance title-winning campaign, dominating a number of games from the middle of midfield.

The former Walsall midfielder scored the winner in Stags' first victory of the season, against local rivals Chesterfield in August 2016.

In addition to appearing for the under 18s, Healey has played a number of games for the club's under 21s side, competing with senior players against the likes of Grimsby Town and Notts County.

After being named as the Young Player of the Year, Healey was presented with a shield and the Jack Retter Trophy, given to the winning player each season by the Stags' Supporters Association. SSA president and Stags' historian Paul Taylor presented Healey with the award at One Call Stadium on Saturday.

The Birmingham-born youngster will attend the club's Annual Awards Evening this Sunday, as the stand-out players throughout the club are honoured for their performances this season.

Supporters can find out who's won each award by keeping an eye on our social media channels on Sunday evening.
