Stags' boss snaps up Forest defender

31 August 2016

Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray has moved rapidly in the transfer market to capture Nottingham Forest defender Alex Iacovitti on a loan move until the end of the season.

The transfer materialised following a hamstring injury to defender Kyle Howkins in last night’s 2-0 loss to Doncaster in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Iacovitti, 18, has put pen-to-paper on a deal at One Call Stadium this afternoon as Adam Murray re-enforces his defensive options with this deadline day acquisition.

The versatile defender has progressed through the ranks at The City Ground and made his senior debut in the Reds’ 4-3 opening day victory over Burton Albion earlier this month.

Comfortable at both centre-half and left-back, Iacovitti has represented Scotland at under 19 level despite being born in England to an Italian father and Scottish mother.

He was an ever-present in the Forest under 18s’ side who reached the play-off semi-final and quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup two seasons ago, and went on to become a mainstay of the under 21s’ side last campaign.

Stags' boss Adam Murray said: "It's been an eventful day. We've had to move very quickly in the market to get this one over the line. We've managed to push it through and our thanks are extended to Nottingham Forest, Jack Lester and Gary Brazil, in particular.

"We have kept an eye on Alex for a while. He has a very good presence about him. He is left-footed, which will give us balance. He's an old-school centre half who can play and has good pace."

The loan agreement is subject to EFL approval.

In other news, teenage forwards Tyler Blake and Jason Law have joined Sutton Coldfield  on loan for one month.

Defender Corbin Shires, 18, has linked up with Bradford Park Avenue, also on a one month deal.
