New signing determined to repay gaffer's faith

17 September 2016

New addition Oscar Gobern wants to repay Stags' boss Adam Murray with high-quality performances, the midfielder declared today, just hours after his signing was revealed.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper yesterday and was announced only 90 minutes before today's match away at Hartlepool United, which finished 0-0.

The midfielder was brought on at half-time in today's contest, replacing CJ Hamilton, and impressed with a number of neat passages of play.

Having not played competitive football for 12 months because of a knee injury, the 6ft 3in player was clearly enthused by manager Adam Murray's words of encouragement prior to entering the field for the first time since his lay-off.

“The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me by bringing me on in the second half,” said Gobern, speaking after today’s match.

“He said ‘go out there and express yourself’ and I think we did that in the second half.

“It was a positive result, overall, heading into next week against Grimsby.

“The gaffer's given me a platform to play and I want to repay that to the gaffer, the fans and players.

"The gaffer's been great with me since I've arrived and I’ve settled in well."

Overall, the ex-QPR player was pleased with the point gained,

"Its a tough place to come [at Victoria Park]. The fans are 'on you' as it's a close stadium; you hear everything that's said."

And Gobern already has his sights set on playing at One Call Stadium in Stags' next match on Saturday, in a 12.15pm kick-off against Grimsby.

"We go into next week's match feeling good. It'll be a tough game. They're doing quite well. It'll be physical.

"We will have to implement our game. The gaffer's encouraging us to get on the ball, express ourselves and that's what we need to do next week."

The midfielder's interview will be available to view shortly on Stags Player HD.
