Local school kids enjoy helicopter ride with Stags’ owner

26 September 2016

Two local school children have enjoyed the experience of a lifetime as they were flown over Mansfield by Stags’ chairman John Radford.

Ten year olds Faye Marsh and Harvey Simpson of Farmilo Primary School, Pleasley, won the private helicopter trip as part of a competition during a visit by Mr Radford to the school.

The Stags’ owner answered questions from schoolchildren in an hour-long Q&A session about his life and Mansfield Town Football Club.

The aforementioned children, accompanied by their mothers, set off in the helicopter from the field adjacent to Stags’ proposed new training site on Woburn Lane, Pleasley, before enjoying a 20 minute ride over Mansfield.

After the end of their school day, scores of fellow children at Farmilo watched excitedly as the chopper set off, flying over Mansfield’s One Call Stadium and parts of Ashfield before descending to its return destination.

After the trip, Faye said: “That’s probably one of the best experiences I’ll ever have in my life.

“I think John Radford is a really kind man who cares about Mansfield.”

Faye’s mum Julie added: “It was an absolutely fantastic experience and a very generous gesture by Mr Radford. Faye hasn’t stopped talking about it.”

Harvey said: “That was amazing, I really enjoyed it.”

Hayley Pattison, Harvey’s mum, said the experience would leave a lasting impression of both Mr Radford and Mansfield Town Football Club: “The opportunity to fly with Mr Radford, for the kids especially, was fantastic.

“It leaves us with an even greater impression of the Stags and underlines its positive attitude of good-will to members of the local community.”
