Loanee hoping to get amongst the goals

19 January 2017

Mansfield Town’s latest loan signing Shaquile Coulthirst says he wants to get back to doing what he does best at One Call Stadium – scoring goals.

Stags today announced the signing of the 22-year-old on loan until the end of the season with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.

Speaking exclusively to www.mansfieldtown.net following the switch, the Tottenham Hotspur academy product said he hopes the move will allow him to begin enjoying his football again.

“I am just happy to be with a manager that is going to help me enjoy my football again, and a group of players that could do that as well,” Coulthirst said.

“I thought it was the right time and the right place to be at the minute; obviously I wasn’t playing with the previous club at the time. So I thought about coming here and try to get that love back for football.

“It is just a lovely chapter really (signing for Mansfield Town). Hopefully it helps me to get where I want to be in the end, but I am not really thinking about that right now. I am thinking about the short-term right now, playing games and scoring goals.”

Furthermore, the Hackney-born frontman explained speaking to several players of the Stags’ current squad had an influence on his decision to make the move to One Call Stadium.

“Loads of things [attracted me here]. I spoke to a couple of lads I know, and a couple of other guys I have known from previous clubs, and they’ve have only had good things to say about it.

“Kevan Hurst, obviously, I was with him at Southend United. Pearcy (Krystian Pearce) – I was with him at Torquay United; and obviously Hayden White’s just come in as well.

“So I spoke to Hayden, and he’s been saying that the manager’s great, the football they are playing is great. He played in the game which was the local derby with Notts County, and he said maybe all we were lacking was that finishing touch and maybe you could bring that here. So I thought, why not?

“Having a few familiar faces around really helps you get to know the rest of the lads a bit quicker, and it helps you integrate with everyone a bit quicker.”

The former Leyton Orient and York City talisman is confident his goal-scoring prowess can add to the Stags’ firepower up front.

“I think I work very hard and I have got a good work ethic, a lot of pace and I like to score goals.

“It is just [about being in] a team that could get me the ball in the areas that I like, anywhere in and around the box.

“[I want to] score as many goals as I can, and obviously help the team to get where it wants to be – get them promoted. That’s the key aim at the minute for the team. [I want to] help them get there and see where it takes me.”
