Mansfield Town

The community department work on the key principles of ‘Health, Education, Social Inclusion and Sports Participation, along with the power of football and Mansfield Town Football Club’ to provide high-quality coaching and education to large groups of people in the local area. 

A large proportion of the work which Football in the Community carry out is focussed on children aged 15 and under. Tens of thousands of children are coached each year by the community staff as they visit local schools and engage in their half-term activities programme. 

Every Saturday morning, local children attend sessions within our community department and enjoy playing football on the 3G pitches at One Call Stadium, partaking in games in the Community room and they also eat lunch with the Community staff. 

If Stags are at home, the children also get to watch the game under the supervision of the staff, in the Community block at One Call Stadium.

Numerous events are organised in local schools and thousands of children take part each year. The ever-popular 50/50 Penalty Shootout is an ongoing event which a large number of schools take part in. It involves children raising as much money as possible ahead of a coaching session and the penalty shootout competition. The more penalties a child scores and the more money they raise, the better the prize they receive in return. 

The new Premier League initiative, Premier League Primary Stars, aims to enhance the provision of PE and improve pupil educational attainment in Maths and English across Mansfield primary schools.

This project will develop teacher knowledge, skills and confidence in the delivery of the school’s PE, and raise the children’s understanding, interest and confidence in Maths and English.

The delivery of the project focuses on the schools wants and needs, and also includes an element of teacher continuing professional development. 

Furthermore, mascot packages are available through the Community department and this includes: a free Mansfield Town FC shirt, two free tickets, meeting the manager and players and the chance to lead the Stags out onto the pitch. The services provided give the chance for the youngsters to get as close to their local football team as possible.

The Football Association and the Premier League Girls Football are also partnered with the Community and has the main purpose of getting more girls involved in playing football. The girls’ teams are led by excellent coaches that have trained in football and they give the girls the chance to improve their skills so that they can develop into good players, coaches and officials. 

The Community department have recently started their ‘Senior Stags’ initiative, which promotes health, wellbeing and fitness among males aged 50 and over. 

The sessions include the delivery of information about health and nutrition, encouraging attendees to improve their diet in order to avoid unnecessary health problems. In addition to receiving information, the Senior Stags also take part in walking football at One Call Stadium. 

Walking football helps to keep the Senior Stags active and if they enjoy playing it, there is the opportunity to enter tournaments both locally and nationally. There has been a superb initial uptake on the Senior Stags programme, but there is room for expansion. 

We also offer a futsal education programme for 16-18-year-olds (male and female). The Football League Trust Education & Futsal programme (FLT Futsal) offers school leavers the chance to find passes in class and on the court at EFL clubs across the country, as they learn, train, play and work.

Those on the programme study towards a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (worth up to three A-Levels) and also receive regular Futsal coaching to develop technical, tactical and physical ability.

In addition to the training sessions, the players represent the Stags in the FLT Futsal League and cup competitions. The course offers a clear pathway to university or a career in the sports industry.
