Boss to discuss potential targets with Chairman & CEO

2 December 2016

New Stags' boss Steve Evans will meet with chairman John Radford and CEO Carolyn Radford this evening as the trio look to plot the club's way into the top seven of Sky Bet League Two

The manager permitted a day off for his players and staff today, but was at his One Call Stadium office this morning as he prepares to present a list of playing targets at the meeting tonight.

And speaking ahead of this evening's engagement with the club's owners, the new gaffer exclusively told www.mansfieldtown.net when asked about potential transfers ahead of the January transfer window: "If you are going to present a case for John & Carolyn Radford to say 'yes' to some things [which] you want to do then you have to do your research and reports and make sure everything is 100% on the button.

"I have a meeting with with the chairman and chief executive this evening and at that meeting I will be going through the first stage of what I would like to do and some of the players who we would perhaps like to bring in and the first impressions the squad have made individually and collectively."

And the manager believes that while assessments are ongoing of the current squad, new recruits are required to add further quality to his ranks.

"Myself and Paul Raynor will certainly be at games tomorrow looking at potential targets.

"We have to believe we are bringing players in to strengthen us. If that's what they are going to do then [we want to bring them in] as early as possible. We know we can't  sign a player before the early part of January but you only have to look at the top clubs and their targets and offers etc will all be happening within the next one to two weeks.

"Obviously we'll have a lot of work to do. It's not just about about agreeing terms with a club, you have to agree terms with a player and his representative, so there's a whole lot to be done.

"What you can't do is sign player upon player, and give the chairman 35 players! I think he's close to it now when he counts it down!

"We have to target a number of players that we want and they have to be of the quality to give the Stags supporters every right to expect a real good second half to the season; where that takes us, the results will dictate."

Meanwhile, Steve Evans revealed that he will announce a new member of his recruitment staff early next week.
