Preview: Morecambe vs Stags

Mansfield Town will be looking to reclaim a place in the play-offs when they make the Boxing Day trip to Morecambe in Sky Bet League Two (3pm).

TEAM NEWS:

Stags’ boss Adam Murray has no new injury concerns ahead of the journey to Lancashire, which they will make on Christmas Day. Captain Nicky Hunt is in contention to be in the squad after just over a month out with a hamstring injury, whilst left-back Malvind Benning is progressing well with his recovery from a knee injury, but will still be sidelined for the Boxing Day clash.

Whether to make changes to the line-up that drew 1-1 with Cambridge United last Saturday will be the dilemma for Murray, with Mansfield also in action 48 hours later when they return to One Call Stadium to face York City.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has no fresh injury worries as the Shrimps aim to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to York City in their last game.

Former Nottingham Forest and Chesterfield goalkeeper Barry Roche will be hoping to remain between the sticks, as one of six changes that were made by Bentley going into their last Sky Bet League Two contest.

RECENT FORM:

Mansfield head into the match in decent form after remaining unbeaten in four of their last five games in all competitions.

In their last fixture, Adam Chapman netted a superb long-range free-kick to put the Stags in front against Cambridge United, before Ryan Donaldson levelled 13 minutes later to ensure each side had to settle for a point.

Morecambe, who begin the day in 17th position, were defeated by York City last Saturday, a result which ended the Minstermen’s run of nine straight defeats.

Bentley’s men have only won one game in their last seven, and getting back into the top half will be the ambition for Saturday’s hosts with both clubs beginning a run of three games in seven days.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

Mansfield and Morecambe have met on six occasions before, and the 2014-15 campaign saw both sides claim slender home wins.

The Stags’ victory came when Alex Fisher notched a 90th minute winner in September 2014 to ensure maximum points.

The match at the Globe Arena ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts, with early goals from Paul Mullin and Kevin Ellison enough to secure the win despite Simon Heslop’s consolation.
